Abstract

Background: Banyumas Regency have a high diversity of agricultural commodities; however, their utilization remains largely confined to basic food and economic purposes. Additionally, numerous agricultural by-products and waste materials have not been maximally utilized. Purpose: This review aims to explore the bioactive profiles and therapeutic potentials of major Banyumas commodities to support public health, reduce dependence on imported pharmaceutical raw materials, and promote a circular economy. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted using various reference sources and reputable journals, with an emphasis on current research. Results: Key commodities such as cashew, coffee, rubber, clove, tobacco, sugarcane, coconut husk, and rice husk demonstrate diverse pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, wound healing, and metabolic disorder-modulating effects. Conclusion: Beyond fulfilling nutritional requirements, these primary commodities and their associated waste products hold strong potential as alternative phytopharmaceutical materials, capable of advancing both the circular economy and public health
