Uji aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol kulit salak (Salacca zalacca) terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus aureus

Salak is a fruit which is quite popular in the society and used for diarrhea, but until now the using of salak still as food only. The other parts such as salak’s peel has not been used properly and thrown away. The aim of this study is to determine the antibacterial activity in the salak ethanolic extract against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. Salak peel was extracted using 70% ethanol solvent using maceration method. Antibacterial activity of salak ethanol extract was tested against Staphylococcus aureus using paper disc method by using concentration exctract is 10%, 20%, 40%, and 80%. The result indicated that salak ethanolic extract can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The greater concentration of the extract, the clearer diameter of the cleared zone. The largest inhibitory zone is at 80% concentration with a diameter of 9.83 mm and has an equivalent to 25μg amoxicillin activity of 77.58%. Secondary metabolite of salak peel extract are alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, and quinones.
