Pengaruh variasi kadar hidroksi propil metil selulosa pada formulasi sediaan gel hand sanitizer minyak serai wangi (Citronella oil) dan uji aktivitas antibakteri Staphylococcus aureus

Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus L.) contain citronellal and geraniol which has antibacterial effect. The objective of this research was to formulate the citronella oil as active ingridients in hand sanitizer gel dosage form that completely fulfill the physics character and the physics stability, also to find out antibacterials activity from the gel towards Staphylococcus aureus. The hand sanitizer was made by variation of HPMC concentration by 1,25%, 1,5%, 1,75%, and 2%. Descriptive analytic was used in organoleptic test, pH, homogeneity, and Freeze-thaw test. Viscosity test, both adhesive and dispersive energy were examined using one way ANOVA and followed by LSD test. The selected formula was tested for antibacterial activity by well diffusion method. Negative and positive control from hand sanitizer dosage form in market use to compare the result. The result showed that the higher of HPMC concentration can enhance the viscosity and the adhesive energy, nonetheless reduce the dispersive energy oh hand sanitizer gel. The selected formula was hand sanitizer gel with 1,75% HPMC because it showed stability while in depository, completely fulfill the physics character and the physics stability of gel. Also it showed antibacterial effect to S. aureus. The selected formula on HPMC concentration 1,75% had antibacterials ability to S. aureus.
